Harry Winston upholds an integrated approach to Corporate Responsibility that encompasses all aspects of responsible business.

The Company is firmly committed to operating with the utmost integrity and is dedicated to adding value for its stakeholders in accordance with its strong organizational values and commitment to enhance the positive economic, environmental and social impact of business.

Responsible Trade in Diamonds, Gemstones and Precious Metals

Harry Winston is committed to ensuring that all aspects of its business – including the sale of rough diamonds, the purchase of polished diamonds and other gemstones and the purchase of precious metals – reflect the highest standards of conduct.

Harry Winston is a member of Jewelers of America and the Responsible Jewellery Council both of which promote responsible, ethical, environmental and social practices throughout the diamond and gold jewelry chain.

Harry Winston purchases polished diamonds only from legitimate sources that subscribe to an international system of certification and warranties known as the Kimberley Process Certification Scheme (KPCS) and The System of Warranties. The KPCS is a joint government, diamond industry and NGO initiative that imposes extensive requirements on its member countries to enable them to certify the origin of their rough diamonds and prevent illicit or “conflict” diamonds from entering legitimate trade. The System of Warranties is an extension of the Kimberley Process where members of the diamond trade provide a written guarantee on all invoices that the diamonds are conflict free.  All warranties whether given or received must be audited and reconciled on an annual basis. The System of Warranties provides assurance that diamonds are from conflict free sources all the way to the diamond jewelry retailer.

Canada is a member of the KPCS and diamonds from the Diavik Diamond Mine, in which the Company holds a 40 per cent interest, are conflict free.

Environmental and Social Responsibility

As a responsible partner in the Diavik Diamond Mine (which is operated by a subsidiary of Rio Tinto, plc), Harry Winston is fully committed to the principles and practices of Sustainable Development, maintained and advanced while maximizing the resources mined.

This commitment includes respect for the natural and social environments, sharing economic benefits and diligently reducing adverse impacts or outcomes resulting from our work. In addition, this commitment extends to setting measurable goals, seeking to improve performance against these goals over time, and to transparency in reporting that performance. This framework also identifies important stakeholders, including: co-workers, host communities, regulators and customers.
