Is Harry Winston Diamond Corporation vertically integrated?
No. The Company focuses on the most profitable segments of the diamond pipeline: mining of rough diamonds and retail of luxury diamond jewelry and timepieces. Harry Winston does not participate in the cutting and polishing of diamonds.

Are diamonds from the Diavik Diamond Mine used in Harry Winston Jewelry?
Harry Winston Diamond Corporation does not transfer its rough diamonds from the Diavik Diamond Mine directly to its jewelry and timepiece division. While the Diavik Diamond Mine produces some of the world's highest quality diamonds, the Company does not track the final destination of its rough diamonds. The mining division sorts, values and sells parcels of rough diamonds to various manufacturers for cutting and polishing.

Cut and polished diamonds meeting the luxury brand division's exacting standards of quality are purchased independently from a variety of sources. Certainly some diamonds originating from Diavik have been included in Harry Winston jewelry creations.

How does Harry Winston avoid dealing in conflict diamonds?
Harry Winston purchases polished diamonds only from legitimate sources that subscribe to an international system of certification and warranties known as the Kimberley Process Certification Scheme (KPCS) and The System of Warranties. The KPCS is a joint government, diamond industry and NGO initiative that imposes extensive requirements on its member countries to enable them to certify the origin of their rough diamonds and prevent illicit or "conflict" diamonds from entering legitimate trade. The System of Warranties is an extension of the Kimberley Process where members of the diamond trade provide a written guarantee on all invoices that the diamonds are conflict free. All warranties whether given or received must be audited and reconciled on an annual basis. The System of Warranties provides assurance that diamonds are from conflict free sources all the way to the diamond jewelry retailer.

Canada is a member of the KPCS and diamonds from the Diavik Diamond Mine, in which the Company holds a 40 per cent interest, are conflict free.

How do you sell the diamonds you produce?
The Company sells its 40% share of diamonds from the Diavik Diamond Mine by first sorting and valuing the diamonds which are then sold by its own sales team directly to diamond manufacturers (cutters and polishers) through its offices in Antwerp, Belgium and Mumbai, India.
